Connecting to a video projector (or monitor) and soundbar
- Disconnect all devices from the mains by unplugging them.
- For Sonos only: In the Sonos app on your smartphone, make sure that ‘TV Autoplay’ is switched on under Home Theatre. Then close the Sonos app (“TV Autoplay” should be enabled by default. If you do not have the Sonos app, skip this step)
- Connect the VAX04101 TV OUT port to the HDMI input on the video projector
- Connect the VAX04101 HDMI 1 to Sound port to the HDMI eARC port on the soundbar.
- Connect your first source device to the VAX04101 Input 2.
- If applicable: Connect your second source device to the VAX04101 Input 3.
- If applicable: Connect your third source device to the VAX04101 Input 4.
- Then plug in the power cables for the video projector and soundbar.
- Switch on the video projector. On the projector, select the connected HDMI input as the signal input.
- Plug in the power cable for the VAX04101. Set the EDID on the VAX04101 to ‘7.1’ (if your soundbar supports Dolby Atmos; otherwise, set it to 5.1 or 2.0). Enable eARC on the VAX04101 so that the eARC LED lights up.
- Then plug in the power cables for the source devices.
- Then start the desired source device. If the ‘Auto’ LED on the far left of the VAX04101 is lit, the switch should automatically switch to the relevant HDMI input of the source device and output picture and sound. If the Auto-Switch function is disabled, select input 2 to 4 manually. (To enable or disable the Auto-Switch function, press the ‘Auto/Input’ button on the VAX04101 for 3 seconds or press the ‘Auto Source’ button on the VAX04101 remote control.)
Setting up with a TV (or video projector with HDMI-ARC) and soundbar
- Unplug all devices from the mains by pulling out the plug.
- For Sonos only: In the Sonos app on your smartphone, make sure that ‘TV Autoplay’ is switched on under Home Theatre. Then close the Sonos app (TV Autoplay should be enabled by default. If you do not have the Sonos app, skip this step)
- Connect the VAX04101 TV OUT port to the HDMI-ARC port on your TV. If your TV has an HDMI-eARC, use this port. Recommendation: In the TV menu, set the eARC mode from Auto to Off.
- Connect the VAX04101 HDMI 1 to Sound port to the soundbar’s HDMI eARC port
- Connect your first source device to the VAX04101 Input 2.
- If applicable: Connect your second source device to the VAX04101 Input 3.
- If applicable: Connect your third source device to the VAX04101 Input 4.
- Then plug in the power cables for the TV and the Sonos Arc or Sonos Beam 2.
- Plug in the power cable for the VAX04101. Set the EDID on the VAX04101 to ‘7.1’ (if your soundbar supports Dolby Atmos; otherwise set to 5.1)
- Switch on the TV. Ensure that HDMI-CEC is enabled on the TV. Depending on the TV manufacturer, this function is called Anynet+ (Samsung), Aquos Link (Sharp), BraviaSync (Sony), DigiLink (Grundig), EasyLink (Philips), Regza Link (Toshiba), Simplink (LG), TechniLink (TechniSat), VieraLink (Panasonic).
- Press the eARC button on the VAX04101 so that the eARC LED lights up.
- The TV should now automatically switch off its internal speakers and display a message stating that HDMI ARC is active. If not, switch the TV manually to ARC audio output,
- In the TV menu under Audio Format, select ‘Auto’ or “Passthrough”, not ‘PCM’ to enable multi-channel audio.
- Then switch the TV to its HDMI input to which the VAX04101 is connected.
- Next, plug in the power cables of the source devices.
- Then start the desired source device. If the ‘Auto’ LED on the far left of the VAX04101 is lit, the switch should automatically switch to the relevant HDMI input of the source device and output picture and sound. If the Auto-Switch function is deactivated, select input 2 to 4 manually. (To activate or deactivate the Auto Switch function, press the ‘Auto/Input’ button on the VAX04101 for 3 seconds or press the ‘Auto Source’ button on the VAX04101 remote control.)
- The VAX04101 outputs audio from external sources 2 to 4 via the soundbar when eARC is enabled on the Switch and the corresponding HDMI input (2 to 4) is selected.
- The VAX04101 outputs audio from the TV (internal TV apps and TV tuner) via the soundbar when eARC is enabled on the switch and HDMI input 1 is selected.
- Audio output via the TV speakers (without the soundbar) is possible if eARC is switched off on the switch and an audio format supported by the TV (e.g. stereo) is being played.
Important for Sonos users: If you are using a Sonos soundbar, do not use the Sonos app for installation. The Sonos app is only suitable for setting up the soundbar when it is connected directly to a TV with an HDMI ARC port. If you have started the installation process or troubleshooting within the Sonos app, you will not be able to simply exit this dialogue. Please force-close the app; it must no longer be running. Then unplug the Sonos from the mains for one minute and plug it back in. Then start the installation as described above. Once sound is being output via the soundbar, you can use the app again. However, please do not select the ‘Check connection’ function or similar troubleshooting options within the app, as this will fail due to the lack of a direct connection. The Sonos soundbar and app are designed solely for direct connection to a television. However, it will also work fine with the VAX04101.

Known limitation for Auto-switching: When Auto-Switching is enabled the VAX04101 switches automatically to its input where a player has just started. Devices like Apple TV or Xbox do not switch off their output immediately, but keeps it powered on for a while. Therefore the VAX04101 won't switch again to this player automatically. So only the first time you start an Apple TV, it will switch automatically.
